Position Summary:
The Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) provides high-quality, evidence-based therapy services to children in an outpatient pediatric clinic under the supervision of a licensed Occupational Therapist. The COTA assists in implementing individualized treatment plans to help children develop the fine motor, emotional regulation skills, sensory processing, and self-care skills needed for independence and success in daily life.
Key Responsibilities:
- Carry out treatment plans established by the supervising Occupational Therapist to address developmental, sensory, and functional goals.
- Conduct individual and small-group therapy sessions focusing on areas such as fine motor coordination, handwriting, sensory integration, self-care, and play skills.
- Observe, record, and report patient progress and responses to treatment to the supervising OT.
- Collaborate with OTs, speech and physical therapists, ABA, and other team members to provide coordinated, holistic care.
- Educate parents and caregivers on strategies, home exercise programs, and adaptive techniques to support progress outside of therapy sessions.
- Report in a professional, precise manner to multiple parents per shift at end of therapy sessions.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation in compliance with clinic, insurance, and regulatory standards.
- Assist with maintaining therapy equipment, supplies, and cleanliness of the treatment environment.
- Participate in team meetings, continuing education, and professional development activities.
Qualifications:
- Associate degree from an accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant program.
- Current certification from the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT).
- Current and valid state OTA license.
- Minimum 1 year of pediatric experience preferred (clinic or school-based).
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to engage with children and families.
- Knowledge of pediatric developmental milestones, sensory integration, and play-based interventions.
- CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
Work Environment:
- Outpatient pediatric clinic setting.
- Frequent interaction with children ages birth to 18 with developmental, neurological, and sensory needs.
- Requires physical activity such as lifting, positioning, and assisting children in therapy activities.
- Collaborative, team-oriented environment focused on family-centered care.
- Ability to multitask, organize small groups, supervise OT students during shift, flexibility a must in our sensory dynamic clinic environment.
- Work with various sensory equipment, sensory gyms.
- Ability to work in busy work environment, supervise small groups and ensure the safety of our clients.
Schedule & Benefits:
- [Weekday after-noon hours 3- 7 choice of days Including (Monday through Thursday)
