POSITION SUMMARY:
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Camp Specialist-(Health Administrator) will provide first aid care for campers and staff, oversee the administration of medications to campers and staff, monitor health and cleanliness standards, organize paperwork and maintain file organization.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Attend pre-camp training sessions.
2. Assist with camp set-up and break down.
3. Ensure each staff member and camper has on file a health history and examination form, as required.
4. Oversee health screenings of incoming campers as needed.
5. Organize all camper medication and set up dispensing system.
6. Conduct inventory of supplies and place orders when necessary.
7. Establish and follow appropriate medical routines, including record keeping in daily medical log, disposal of medical waste, managing and safeguarding medications, and utilizing approved treatment orders.
8. Check, maintain and issue first aid kits when needed.
9. Provide first aid for minor injuries and illness
10. Keep accident/incident reports.
11. Understand the daily schedule.
12. Know, understand, and follow all emergency procedures.
13. Use the property and equipment of the Camp in a responsible manner; return all equipment to appropriate locations.
14. Report all concerns, accidents and incidents to the appropriate personnel; complete the proper documents.
15. Maintain communication with staff, parents, campers and directors.
16. Work with other staff for the good of the children.
17. Direct assistant counselors as needed.
18. Complete all paperwork as requested, including incident reports.
19. Guide the children in solving problems.
20. Perform other duties relevant to camp operations as defined by camp management.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL, AND ABILITIES:
1. Desire to work with children and understand the development needs of youth.
2. Ability to relate to youth and adults in a positive manner.
3. Demonstrate knowledge and skill in nursing.
4. Possess organizational skills, patience, maturity and dependability.
5. Sound character, strong morals, values and personal ethics.
6. Ability to communicate and work with groups of different age and development levels, and to provide necessary instruction to campers and staff.
7. Ability to communicate with parents.
8. Ability to observe camper behavior, assess its appropriateness, enforce appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures, and apply appropriate behaviormanagement techniques.
9. Ability to ready prescriptions and health exams.
Requirements:QUALIFICATIONS:
1. RN, LPN, or EMT, with Pediatric experience preferred.
2. Certification in CPR/AED and First Aid.
3. Previous camp experience preferred.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Physical ability to get around camp property quickly. Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 25 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical activities may include but are not limited to climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, running, pulling, pushing, lifting, and talking. Must be able to assist campers in an emergency (fire, evacuation, illness, or injury) and possess strength and endurance required to maintain constant supervision of campers. Ability to withstand daily exposure to the elements, particularly sun and heat, and animals such as bugs, snakes, etc.
