Qualifications:
Must be at least 18 years of age
Must have a driver’s license valid in the state of New Jersey
High School diploma or equivalency
One year related experience working with persons with disabilities preferred
Must submit to a criminal background check, and be determined to be not disqualified by the Department of Human Services prior to hire.
Must agree to have name checked against the Central Registry of Offenders Against Individuals with Developmental Disabilities
All employees hired after 6/15/18 shall submit to drug testing prior to employment All employees shall submit to drug testing conducted randomly and for cause.
All employees hired after 7/16/18 shall complete an application to have their name checked against the Child Abuse Registry Information (CARI)
Required Skills:
- Strong verbal, communication and documentation skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively with DDD community, families, colleagues, supervisors, and agency personnel;
- Physical ability to fulfill job requirements (able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds without accommodation )
Duties:
The Direct Support Professional is responsible for providing direct services to the individuals residing in the Residential Program. This includes providing supervision and/or assistance with personal care, daily living activities, recreational pursuits, transportation, medical appointments, or any other needs the individuals supported by the program may require. The Direct Support Professional will complete required daily documentation for all services provided.
Essential Job Functions:
- Successfully complete assigned trainings
- Complete logs, charts, medication administrative records, incident reports, and other assigned paperwork
- Drive and accompany individuals to appointments, recreation/leisure activities, or other destinations as assigned, with strict adherence to motor vehicle laws
- Administer medication as prescribed
- Implement behavioral programs in accordance with individualized behavior plans
- Interact with individuals in an age-appropriate, respectful, and safe manner at all times
- Meet individuals’ personal needs in a manner that ensures privacy and dignity
- Maintain confidentiality of individuals’ information and records (HIPAA)
- Comply with applicable Tender Care and Division of Developmental Disabilities (DDD) policies and procedures, and DDD and Department of Human Services licensing requirements.
- Cooperate with the licensee and Department of Human Services staff in any inspection, inquiry, or investigation
Job Type: Full-time/Part-Time/Per-Diem
Pay: $18.50 - $21.00 per hour
