Responsibilities:
Draw blood samples from patients of varied age groups, including pediatric and geriatric populations, adhering to established protocols and safety standards.
Prepare specimens for laboratory testing, labeling, and documentation following strict procedural guidelines to ensure accuracy and integrity.
Verify patient demographic information and specimen labeling post-venipuncture, ensuring tubes are labeled in the patient's presence and with correct identifiers.
Communicate clearly with patients to explain procedures, ease anxieties, and foster a trusting environment.
Maintain detailed records of collections, patient interactions, and specimen processing, ensuring compliance with confidentiality and regulatory standards.
Demonstrate professional behavior and uphold a positive image within the clinical setting, contributing to a safe and welcoming atmosphere.
Adapt to different work environments, including patient service centers, outpatient clinics, or in-office settings, as needed.
Participate in ongoing training and adhere to all policies relating to safety, dress code, and operational procedures.
Assist with multiple high-volume collections, balancing priorities efficiently during busy periods.
Support process improvement initiatives and contribute to a culture of quality and excellence.
Required Skills:
Minimum of 3 years of professional phlebotomy experience, including pediatric, geriatric, and capillary collections.
Strong proficiency in venipuncture and capillary blood collection techniques.
Exceptional customer service skills with the ability to communicate effectively and empathetically with patients and team members.
High attention to detail and accuracy in specimen labeling and documentation.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision in a fast-paced environment.
Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
Familiarity with electronic data entry and laboratory information systems.
Valid certification in phlebotomy preferred; however, certification is required in certain states.
Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and a clean driving record are necessary if travel between multiple locations is required.
Nice to Have Skills:
Medical assistant or paramedic training background.
Experience working in a patient service center environment or outpatient setting.
Knowledge of OSHA safety protocols and infection control practices.
Multilingual abilities to serve diverse patient populations.
Preferred Education and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Additional medical training such as medical assistant or paramedic certification is advantageous.
At least 3 years of dedicated phlebotomy experience, including pediatric and geriatric collections.
Experience working in high-volume, fast-paced clinical settings.
Other Requirements:
Availability to work flexible hours, including weekends, holidays, and on-call shifts, depending on staffing needs.
Ability to travel between multiple outpatient or patient service locations with minimal notice.
Physical ability to perform blood draws, including standing, bending, and handling supplies for extended periods.
Commitment to maintaining confidentiality, safety, and infection control standards.
