Pastor - Hammock First Baptist Church

The Pastor of Hammock First Baptist Church is responsible for leading the church to function as a New Testament church. They will lead the congregation, the organizations, and the church staff to perform their tasks. The pastor is leader of pastoral ministries in the church with its main objective to teach and preach the word to enable Christian maturity in the churches members to enable them to exalt the savior, edify the saints, and evangelize sinners. The Pastor shall have general oversight of the work of the church, conduct worship services, lead bible studies, visit church members, and administer the ordinances. They must align with the Baptist Faith and Message 2000 (bfm.sbc.net/bfm2000/).

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Works with the deacons, yokefellows, trustees, and church staff in:
  • Leading the church in the achievement of its mission.
  • Proclaiming the gospel to believers and unbelievers.
  • Caring for the church’s members and other people in the community.
• Serve as a non-voting advising members of the deacons, trustees, and all committees.
• Supervise the work of the staff and work with the Personnel Committee to establish policies, job descriptions, and staff evaluations.
• Lives onsite in church provided accommodations to serve as outreach for the community.
• Provides weekly “office hours” for unscheduled counseling and visitations at the church.
• Other duties as mutually agreed upon.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

• Develop weekly sermons and bible studies that clearly align with Southern Baptist doctrine consistent with the Bible, and that which enables Christian maturity in the members of the church.
• Connect with all members of the church, including caring for their needs and being available for counseling sessions.
• Visit members and other individuals in need at their residences, hospitals, jail, rehab, etc. to provide spiritual guidance and speak the truth from the Word of God.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Master’s degree from a religious school or SBC seminary preferred.
• A person called of God to serve as a Pastor.
• Meets the qualifications of an overseer according to 1 Timothy 3:2-7.
