Quality Inspector

Alstom
Newark, NJ

At Alstom, we understand transport networks and what moves people. From high-speed trains, metros, monorails, and trams, to turnkey systems, services, infrastructure, signalling and digital mobility, we offer our diverse customers the broadest portfolio in the industry. Every day, 80,000 colleagues lead the way to greener and smarter mobility worldwide, connecting cities as we reduce carbon and replace cars.

Could you be the full-time onsite Quality Inspector in Newark, NY, US (EWR Airport) we’re looking for?

Your future role

Take on a new challenge and apply your quality assurance and control expertise in a new cutting-edge field. You’ll work alongside dedicated and collaborative teammates.
You'll play a key role in ensuring industrial quality standards are met throughout production and field operations, driving continuous improvement, safety, and compliance. Day-to-day, you’ll work closely with teams across the business (operations, maintenance, management, and contractors), lead root-cause analysis for nonconformities, and contribute to the development and implementation of quality assurance programs and initiatives, and much more.

We’ll look to you for:

  • Executing industrial quality inspections (QC/QA) on the shop floor and in the field during production and maintenance phases,

  • Tracking and reporting Defects Per Unit (DPU) to support line quality animation at the end of each shift,

  • Leading Handovers (GO/NO GO) and exercising veto authority in case of NO GO decisions when necessary,

  • Reporting and halting safety-related rework issues to ensure compliance with safety standards,

  • Participating in criticality matrix analysis and contributing to Process Failure Mode & Effects Analysis (P-FMEA),

  • Developing and maintaining Quality Control Plans and initiatives,

  • Managing internal Nonconformance Reports (NCRs) by creating, characterizing, and tracking them to closure using problem-solving methods such as QRQC and 5 Whys,

  • Conducting workstation audits and presenting findings during shift handovers.

All about you

We value passion and attitude over experience. That’s why we don’t expect you to have every single skill. Instead, we’ve listed some that we think will help you succeed and grow in this role:

  • Degree in engineering, quality management, or a related technical field. Equivalent hands‑on mechanical/electrical experience in heavy industries (rail, automotive, industrial machinery, etc.) may substitute for a degree.

  • Availability to work evening and night shifts (incl. weekends, etc.),
  • Experience or understanding of quality control (QC) and quality assurance (QA) processes in industrial manufacturing or field operations,

  • Knowledge of Nonconformance Reports (NCRs), root-cause methodologies (e.g., QRQC, 5 Whys), and Failure Mode & Effects Analysis (FMEA),

  • Familiarity with quality management systems, preventive maintenance (PM), and corrective maintenance (CM) processes,

  • Strong communication skills—able to present audit findings, corrective actions, and recommendations clearly,

  • Ability to interpret and enforce Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), quality standards, and safety protocols,

  • Strong collaboration skills to work effectively with operations, maintenance, management, and contractors.

Things you’ll enjoy

Join us on a life-long transformative journey – the rail industry is here to stay, so you can grow and develop new skills and experiences throughout your career. You’ll also:

  • Work with cutting-edge quality control systems and methodologies to ensure industrial excellence,

  • Progress towards becoming a key contributor to Alstom's success in delivering safe, high-quality products and services,

  • Contribute to innovative projects,

  • Benefit from our investment in your development, through award-winning learning,

  • Benefit from a fair and dynamic reward package that recognises your performance and potential, plus comprehensive and competitive social coverage (life, medical, 401k)

Base Salary Range: $70,000 - $80,000 (+ 401k, medical benefits)

You don’t need to be a train enthusiast to thrive with us. We guarantee that when you step onto one of our trains with your friends or family, you’ll be proud. If you’re up for the challenge, we’d love to hear from you!

Important to note

As a global business, we’re an equal-opportunity employer that celebrates diversity across the 63 countries we operate in. We’re committed to creating an inclusive workplace for everyone.
