Who We Are
USRowing’s mission is to steward, strengthen, and grow American rowing by championing performance and igniting new passion for the sport. We do that by broadening access to the sport for people of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities; supporting a strong national team; prioritizing the wellbeing and success of our athletes; being accountable and transparent; and insisting on financial and operational excellence in everything we do.

We are a nonprofit membership organization recognized by the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee as the national governing body for the sport of rowing in the United States. USRowing selects, trains, and manages the team that represent the U.S. in international competition.

We are focused on growing diversity, equity, and inclusion within the sport of rowing on a national scale, on increasing support for our national team programs, and providing additional benefits and value to our over 77,000 individual members and 1,430 rowing organizations. Our constituencies include youth, collegiate, masters, adaptive, indoor, and coastal rowers; coaches; program directors; referees; supporters; and fans.

What We Offer
Are you passionate about building inclusive communities and fostering accessibility in sports? USRowing is looking for an enthusiastic and driven Community Engagement Intern to join our Community Team for the summer. This team is at the heart of USRowing’s mission to create a more welcoming and diverse rowing community, and you’ll play a vital role in helping execute our strategic vision.

As a key member of the Community Engagement team, you will have the opportunity to work across multiple areas of the organization, including competition, communications, membership support, and event planning. From supporting our signature United We Row initiatives (grants to membership organizations and scholarships for athletes and coaches) to helping cultivate an inclusive and accessible environment at regattas and national events, your work will directly contribute to breaking down barriers in the sport of rowing.

Responsibilities
  • Assist in the execution, evaluation, and data analysis of United We Row programs that promote inclusion within the rowing community.
  • Support the development of communications and storytelling initiatives that amplify the voices of underrepresented athletes, coaches, and organizations.
  • Participate in the coordination and execution of national championships, gaining hands-on experience in event management, community, and membership engagement.
  • Support community members in-person at regattas and events and online to ensure responsive, empathetic service.
  • Help drive community engagement efforts by assisting with outreach and interactions with clubs, partners, and stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to implement initiatives that support inclusive events, enhance member engagement, and drive awareness.
  • Help the team plan strategic initiatives to prepare for LA2028 including the development of resources and educational opportunities, an in-person tour around the country, and more.

Qualifications

  • Passion for Making Rowing More Inclusive: A strong commitment to fostering inclusivity, particularly within the sports community.
  • Excellent Communication Skills: Both written and verbal, with the ability to create compelling narratives that inspire and engage diverse audiences.
  • Eagerness to Learn: Enthusiasm for gaining hands-on experience across various aspects of non-profit operations, from program development and fundraising to marketing, communications, community engagement, and membership.
  • Collaborative Mindset: Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment, engaging with a diverse group of stakeholders and adapting to new challenges.
  • Organized and Detail-Oriented: Strong time-management skills with a keen attention to detail and the ability to juggle multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Event Availability: Willingness to attend and participate in major in-person events, including national championships and other key community and membership engagement activities.
  • Analytical and data-driven: Has the ability to synthesize multiple data sets and build dashboards for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs.

Benefits

  • $5,000 salary
  • Course credit is also available
  • USRowing will provide travel and lodging accommodations for all interns traveling to USRowing national championship events.
