BUYER

The Buyer is responsible for sourcing, negotiating, and purchasing direct ingredients, packaging materials, and indirect operating supplies to support food manufacturing operations. This role ensures all materials meet strict food safety, quality, and regulatory standards while optimizing costs and maintaining uninterrupted production schedules.

Responsibilities

• Sourcing & Purchasing: Execute purchase orders for ingredients, raw materials, packaging, and MRO (Maintenance, Repair, and Operations) supplies based on MRP (Material Requirements Planning) signals and production schedules.

• Supplier Management: Build and maintain relationships with vendors. Evaluate supplier performance regarding price, delivery speed, defect rates, and compliance with quality specifications.

• Cost Optimization: Negotiate pricing, payment terms, and delivery schedules to achieve cost savings targets without compromising food safety or material quality.

• Food Safety & Compliance: Partner with the Quality Assurance (QA) team to ensure all vendors provide accurate Documentation (e.g., Certificates of Analysis (COA), Spec Sheets, Allergen Statements, Kosher/Organic certifications, FSMA/GFSI compliance).

• Inventory Control: Monitor inventory levels and lead times to prevent production downtime while minimizing excess holding costs and waste due to shelf-life expiration.

• Issue Resolution: Resolve supply chain disruptions, material shortages, pricing discrepancies, and non-conforming product issues directly with suppliers.
