Site API Inspector
Location - Linden, New Jersey (Onsite)

NES Fircroft is supporting an industrial chemicals manufacturing site with the hire of a Site Inspector / API Mechanical Integrity Inspector. This role provides inspection, technical, and program support across fixed equipment inspection, testing, and repair as part of a broader Mechanical Integrity / Quality Assurance (MIQA) program. The position is site-based within a high-hazard operating environment and is integrated with a centralized technology organization supporting multiple production facilities. Key Responsibilities
Inspection & Regulatory Compliance
- Perform fixed equipment inspections in accordance with API 510, API 570, and API 653 standards.
- Act as Authorized Inspector for pressure vessels, piping systems, and storage tanks.
- Ensure inspection activities comply with RAGAGEP requirements and OSHA 1910.119 Process Safety Management regulations.
- Develop, authorize, and maintain standardized inspection plans for fixed equipment.
- Produce post-inspection reports with clear short-term and long-term recommendations.
- Maintain inspection histories, plans, and equipment records within SAP and site databases.
- Ensure documentation aligns with corporate and site MIQA requirements.
- Develop and document repair plans for pressure vessels, piping, and storage tanks.
- Provide field contract administration during equipment repair activities.
- Evaluate fitness-for-service and remaining life assessments.
- Ensure all repairs are documented in compliance with applicable OSHA standards.
- Develop quality assurance plans for new equipment fabrication.
- Perform or coordinate QA inspections at fabrication shops and on-site.
- Provide technical guidance to internal and third-party NDE examiners.
- Review and evaluate NDE results and recommend corrective actions.
- Perform engineering calculations for minimum allowable thickness and critical equipment assessments.
- Manage and implement the site corrosion monitoring program.
- Coordinate contract NDE inspection activities and provide on-site oversight.
- Support field contract administration for inspection, NDE, and repair scopes.
Education & Experience
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in high-hazard chemical processing, oil refining, or similar industrial environments.
- Prior experience supporting Mechanical Integrity or fixed equipment inspection programs.
- Required: At least two of the following API certifications:
- API 510 (Pressure Vessel Inspector)
- API 570 (Piping Inspector)
- API 653 (Aboveground Storage Tank Inspector)
- Ability to obtain any missing API certification(s) within two years of employment.
- Strong working knowledge of Process Safety Management (PSM).
- Comprehensive understanding of API 510, 570, 653, 579, 580; ASME B31.1, B31.3; ASME Sections V, VIII, IX; NBIC; and applicable NACE standards.
- Demonstrated ability to develop inspection strategies and repair methodologies for fixed equipment.
- Advanced knowledge of non-destructive examination (NDE) techniques including UT, VT, RT, MT, Eddy Current, IRIS, and Shear Wave (Level II certifications preferred).
- Knowledge of welding practices and procedures.
- Ability to travel up to approximately 50% annually.
- Valid driver's license.
- Possession of, or ability to obtain, a TWIC card.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Workspace applications.
- Strong organizational, prioritization, and documentation skills.
- Ability to operate effectively in a self-directed work environment.
- Ability to work safely in a high-hazard industrial environment, including outdoor and indoor settings.
- Comfortable working at heights, in confined spaces, and around operating equipment.
- Willingness to wear required PPE, including respiratory protection.
- Ability to climb stairs and ladders, stand and walk for extended periods, bend, kneel, crawl, reach overhead, and maintain visual and auditory awareness of site alarms.
- Work in a safety-critical industrial chemistry environment with real operational ownership of Mechanical Integrity programs.
