Job Overview:
RWJBarnabas Health is seeking a highly dedicated Assistant Director of Patient Care for Medical Surgical IV – Oncology at the New Brunswick campus.
Medical Surgical IV is an 31 bed Oncology Unit for non-oncological cases. All 31 beds are private rooms. In this unit, you will see a variety of med-surg and intermediate care cases.
This is an inpatient unit for general med - surg tele patients with some oncology overflow. Nurses in this unit are highly valued, as they are able to provide extraordinary care to patients across all populations, including telemetry/cardiology, respiratory, neurology, trauma, orthopedics, and oncology.
These patients are admitted directly from the ER or other hospitals/unit and remain under the care of the 4N team until deemed appropriate to transition.
The 4N team demonstrates expertise, flexibility, resilience, effective communication and interpersonal skills, and teamwork.
Qualifications:
Required:
- BSN required
- At least 3-5 years of Oncology nursing experience in a hospital setting required
- Med Surg & Telemetry Experience required
Preferred:
- MSN highly preferred
- Previous experience as a nursing leadership / management is preferred
- National Oncology Certification preferred
Certifications and Licenses Required:
- BLS and ACLS certification
- Active New Jersey Registered Nurse License
Scheduling Requirements :
- Day Shift, 40 hours per week
- Full-Time
- On Call Leadership Coverage
Essential Functions:
- Provides leadership and direction in order to fulfill the goals and objectives of the unit/organization.
- Effectively communicates information to staff, utilizes resources and manages staff and services.
- Assists the Director with the daily operations of the unit and delegated responsibilities.
- Will be assigned 50 percent of patient care responsibilities.
- Collaboratively prepares and maintains staff schedule and payroll.
- Effectively collaborates with interdisciplinary teams and drives through-out staff accountability.
Facilitates the safe and effective functioning of the unit as demonstrated by
Interviewing and hiring unlicensed personnel & Interviewing and hiring licensed personnel in collaboration with Nursing Director
Facilitates the orientation process for new employees as demonstrated by making assignments that maintain preceptor-orientee relationship,
Working the preceptor-orientee to solve any problems
Ensuring that orientees complete the unit-based orientation within an appropriate individualized time fram
Contributes to the professional growth and development of staff by continuously assessing patient care to evaluate staff knowledge and patterns of performance
Counseling staff on identified areas for improvement
Evaluating the staff performance as demonstrated by the completion of the performance evaluation in a timely manner
Counseling and implementing appropriate disciplinary action
Planning/coordinating unit based education programs as identified by unit needs
Considers staff participation in safety/quality initiatives when completing employee performance appraisals
