Role Overview:
We are seeking a Managing Director to serve as the operating executive for a growing outdoor living and home services business.
The Managing Director owns day-to-day leadership of the company , translating strategy into execution across pricing governance, sales leadership, project management, field execution, and customer delivery .
This role is accountable for execution, team performance, operational discipline, and financial results , allowing the Founder to step out of daily operations while retaining strategic oversight, ownership control, and brand leadership.
This is not a visionary-only CEO role . It is a hands-on operating leadership role focused on building a durable, scalable business.
Core Responsibilities:
Company Operations & Execution:
- Own day-to-day operations across sales, project management, field execution, and customer delivery.
- Ensure teams operate within defined systems, approvals, and standards.
- Translate strategic priorities into clear execution plans.
- Remove bottlenecks, ambiguity, and Founder dependency.
Pricing & Margin Governance:
- Own pricing discipline, approval workflows, and margin protection.
- Ensure all pricing follows approved models, thresholds, and authorization levels.
- Prevent unauthorized discounts, scope giveaways, or margin erosion.
- Review pricing performance trends and escalate exceptions with data-backed recommendations.
Sales Leadership & Management:
- Lead and manage the sales function and sales leadership.
- Own sales performance, forecasting, pipeline health, and accountability.
- Ensure sales execution aligns with delivery capacity, pricing discipline, and operational standards.
- Coach, develop, and correct sales behavior as needed.
- Enforce responsible selling and clean handoffs to operations.
Project Management & Delivery Oversight:
- Own project management standards, workflows, and tools.
- Ensure projects are properly staffed, scheduled, budgeted, and controlled.
- Hold project leaders accountable for execution quality, documentation, and results.
- Intervene early when delivery, budget, or schedule risk appears.
Field Execution & Quality Control:
- Oversee execution quality across all active projects.
- Ensure work is delivered in accordance with contracts, plans, and approved scope.
- Prevent rework, scope drift, and undocumented field changes.
- Ensure inspections, sequencing, and closeout are handled professionally.
Financial & Business Discipline:
- Own operating cadence, forecasting, and execution rhythm.
- Ensure budget discipline, margin consistency, and cash-flow visibility.
- Partner with finance on job profitability, reporting, and controls.
- Identify financial risks early and implement corrective actions.
Systems, Process & Scale:
- Own company operating systems (CRM, project management, reporting tools).
- Ensure clean data, documentation discipline, and real-time visibility.
- Build repeatable processes that scale without heroics.
- Reduce Founder involvement in routine decisions and escalations.
Customer Management & Escalation:
- Own customer experience during execution and delivery.
- Serve as the final internal escalation point for customer issues.
- Ensure timely, professional resolution of disputes or concerns.
- Balance customer satisfaction with contract enforcement and margin protection.
- Protect brand reputation through disciplined delivery.
Leadership & Team Accountability:
- Lead and manage senior leaders across sales, operations, and support.
- Set clear priorities, performance expectations, and accountability standards.
- Hold leaders accountable to outcomes, not activity.
- Address performance issues decisively and professionally.
Decision Authority:
- Full authority over day-to-day operations and execution decisions.
- Authority to hire, manage, and develop team members within approved structure.
- Authority to enforce pricing, sales, project management, and execution standards.
Not authorized to:
- Change ownership structure.
- Alter long-term strategy, brand positioning, or capital allocation.
- Modify equity, major contracts, or strategic direction without Founder approval.
How Success Is Measured:
- Founder materially removed from daily operations.
- On-time, on-budget project delivery.
- Consistent margin performance and pricing discipline.
- Strong sales quality and clean sales-to-operations handoffs.
- Reduced escalations and execution noise.
- Scalable systems and leadership accountability.
What This Role Is Not:
- Not a figurehead or ceremonial role.
- Not dependent on Founder escalation.
- Not a visionary-only or sales-only position.
- Not a role that overrides ownership direction.
This role runs the business so the Founder doesn’t have to.
Qualifications:
- 10+ years in construction, outdoor living, home services, or operationally complex businesses.
- Proven experience leading sales, project management, and execution teams.
- Strong pricing, financial, and margin discipline.
- Comfortable leading through systems, not personalities.
- Calm under pressure, decisive, and accountable.
