Job Details

Key Responsibilities

• Handle a high-volume caseload of up to 50 matters per month, including defense of claims, case strategy, and resolution management
• Provide practical legal advice and risk assessments to business leaders, HR, and claims professionals on workers’ compensation issues
• Oversee outside counsel and coordinate litigation strategy to ensure consistent and cost-effective results
• Draft and review settlement agreements, pleadings, and related documents
• Represent the company at hearings, depositions, and mediations as needed
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align legal strategies with business objectives
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of workers’ compensation statutes, regulations, and case law

Qualifications

• JD and active bar license in good standing in Illinois
• Minimum 8 years of experience in workers’ compensation law, ideally with both litigation and advisory exposure
• Must have Illinois-based workers' compensation defense experience
• Proven ability to manage a heavy caseload with efficiency and accuracy
• Strong executive presence with excellent communication skills and the ability to present clearly to senior leadership
• Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment under pressure and balance legal risks with business goals
• Collaborative mindset with the ability to work effectively across teams
