Senior Accountant

Community Capital Fund
Wayne, NJ

About Community Capital Fund

Since 2012, the Community Capital Fund (CCF) has invested in innovative and measurable community development that strengthens the financial, human, and social capital of under- resourced neighborhoods in the Greater Kansas City Metropolitan Area. CCF is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that partners with grassroots leaders and community-rooted organizations by offering funding (direct grant programs and intermediary funding programs), fiscal sponsorship, and capacity-building support. CCF is in a period of rapid growth as we expand our reach, increase capital access, and innovate to meet the evolving needs of the communities we serve.

Position Summary

The Senior Accountant role is a key addition to CCF’s finance leadership with a focus on day-to-day accounting excellence and process maturity. This role will lead the monthly close, improve internal controls, have management responsibilities, and drive CCF’s transition from QuickBooks to a new accounting system (e.g., Sage Intacct/Financial Edge NXT or similar), including evaluation, migration, configuration, and training. The Senior Accountant will set the backbone for reliable financials and audit ready records while collaborating closely with leadership and programs. These responsibilities align with typical Senior Accountant scopes in nonprofits and industry, including owning close cycles, reconciliations, audit support, and financial systems implementation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Financial Operations & Monthly Close: Lead timely month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closes, including posting and reviewing journal entries, accruals, prepaids, depreciation/amortization, and allocations; ensure accurate revenue and expense recognition and maintain a clean general ledger consistent with US GAAP and nonprofit reporting conventions.
  • Process Maturity, Controls & Audit Readiness: Coordinate audit preparation, including schedules, confirmations, and roll-forwards; support Form 990 readiness with external preparers; implement continuous accounting practices to shorten close time and improve data quality.
  • Systems Transition Leadership (QuickBooks → New Platform)
  • Grant/Fund & Fiscal Sponsorship Support
  • Cash, AP/AR, Payroll & Bookkeeping Oversight: Review payroll entries, allocations, and filings and coordinate with providers; maintain accurate prepaid/deferral schedules; manage and mentor the bookkeeper, reviewing work for accuracy and completeness; establish checklists and calendars for weekly/monthly tasks.
  • Reporting & Partnership: Serve as a collaborative, service-oriented resource to staff, leadership, sponsored projects, and external partners.

Ideal Candidate

  • Hands on accountant who enjoys building systems and closing the books with accuracy and speed.
  • Process oriented, detail driven, and comfortable leading technology changes while training others.
  • Strong communicator able to translate accounting into mission aligned insights.

Qualifications

  • 5–7+ years of progressive accounting experience (nonprofit experience strongly preferred). Typical senior accountant roles require deep close/reconciliation experience and GAAP knowledge.
  • Demonstrated success leading monthly close and maintaining audit ready records.
  • Hands on experience implementing or significantly improving accounting systems; proficiency with QuickBooks and one or more modern platforms (e.g., Intacct/Financial Edge NXT or equivalent).
  • Advanced Excel; strong documentation habits; commitment to internal controls and compliance.
  • CPA or MBA a plus but not required.

We offer:
